INTERGEO unveils new venue strategy: What does the Hamburg partnership mean for the future?

INTERGEO, the world's leading exhibition and conference for geodesy, geoinformation and land management, is entering a new era after DVW e.V. and Hamburg Messe und Congress signed a landmark 10 year partnership that will reshape where and how the event is held. Beginning in 2028, the agreement will introduce a renewed rotating venue model while establishing Hamburg as INTERGEO's flagship host city in odd numbered years from 2029 onwards, reinforcing the event's international reach and long term growth strategy.
DVW e.V., the German Association for Geodesy, Geoinformation and Land Management, and Hamburg Messe und Congress officially signed the agreement in Hamburg on 16 July. The partnership will see Hamburg Messe und Congress take responsibility for the operational management of the INTERGEO exhibition, while DVW retains leadership of the conference, continuing to oversee its technical programme and expert content.
The agreement also marks a return to a rotating venue concept. Rather than remaining at a single location, INTERGEO will alternate between Hamburg in odd numbered years, beginning in 2029, and two other leading German exhibition cities in even numbered years from 2028. The venue for the first edition under the new partnership in 2028 will be announced at a later date.
DVW President Prof. Rudolf Staiger (picture right) described the agreement as an important milestone for the event's future:
"In Hamburg Messe und Congress we have won a strong partner for the continuation of the successful long-term development of INTERGEO. At the same time, we have abandoned other plans in favour of resuming our proven concept of alternating between venues to a certain extent so as to strengthen our ties with our industry in Germany and across Europe. Our cooperation agreement provides an excellent basis for implementing this flexible concept."
For Hamburg Messe und Congress, the agreement adds another internationally recognised event to its growing portfolio of flagship exhibitions.

The new partnership reflects the rapid technological transformation taking place across the geospatial industry. Organisers say advances in geoinformation technologies and digitalisation require event formats which can evolve alongside the sector. By combining a renewed venue strategy with new networking opportunities and event concepts, the partnership aims to strengthen INTERGEO's position as the world's leading platform for knowledge exchange, innovation and business development.
The event continues to demonstrate its international appeal. The latest edition welcomed 523 exhibitors from more than 38 countries alongside approximately 17,000 visitors, around 55% of whom travelled from outside Germany. The accompanying INTERGEO Conference attracted 1,250 delegates, bringing together experts from science, industry, government, professional associations and politics to discuss the future of geospatial technologies.
The next editions of INTERGEO will take place in Munich from 15–17 September 2026 and Frankfurt am Main from 12–14 October 2027. The first event under the new partnership will be held in 2028 at a venue yet to be announced, before Hamburg hosts INTERGEO from 11–13 September 2029, marking the beginning of its role as the event's regular flagship venue.
