Sandro Mesquita, was ist Ihre größte Sorge und lässt Sie im Hinblick auf den Internationalen Automobilsalon Genf 2024 nicht schlafen?
Zunächst einmal schlafe ich sehr gut. Aber unsere größte Herausforderung ist die gleiche wie für alle Automobilsalons in der Welt, nämlich eine qualitativ und inhaltlich gute Messe zu gestalten.
Was sind die Inhalte des Internationalen Automobilsalons Genf?
Auf der einen Seite haben wir die Inhalte, die von den Marken selbst an ihren Ständen erstellt werden. Und auf der anderen Seite die Erfahrungen, die wir als Organisatoren den Besuchern bieten. Unser Anspruch für die nächste Ausgabe ist «Auto.Future.Now». Wir werden vier thematische Zonen schaffen - den Inovation Park, den Design District, den Zero Emission Space und die Adrenaline Zone. Innerhalb dieser Zonen werden die Besucher zusätzliche kuratierte Momente entdecken und zum Erleben inspiriert werden.
Der Internationale Automobilsalon Genf wird nach nur einer Veranstaltung in Katar im Oktober 2023 im Jahr 2024 ins Palexpo zurückkehren. Wie sicher ist die Austragung des Salons in Genf im Jahr 2024, wovon hängt das ab?
Der Internationale Automobil-Salon Genf ist zu 100 Prozent gesichert. Bis jetzt haben wir positive Reaktionen von großen Marken, wir wissen bereits, dass einige definitiv kommen werden - und andere nicht.
Allerdings stellen wir fest, dass die Marken seit dem Ausbruch der Pandemie immer mehr Zeit brauchen, um sich anzumelden. Die Routine, die sie vor Covid-19 hatten, ist nicht mehr vorhanden. Jede Investition in eine solche Marketingplattform wird heutzutage sehr, sehr sorgfältig bewertet.
Aber wir freuen uns sehr für die Marken, die bereits bestätigt sind.
Wer wird Eigentümer des Markennamens und der Messe selbst sein? Welche Rolle spielt die GIMS und welche das Geneva Palexpo?
Die Eigentumsverhältnisse haben sich nicht geändert und sind immer noch dieselben. Geneva International Motor Show GIMS ist der Markenname hinter der Messe. Der Eigentümer ist die gemeinnützige Organisation «Comitée Permanent du Salon de L'Automobile».
Wird die Messe zu einer Mobilitätsmesse wie die IAA in München ausgebaut?
Wir haben uns entschieden, eine Automobilmesse zu bleiben und nicht in die gleiche Richtung wie München zu gehen. Seit der Gründung der Messe im Jahr 1905 war sie immer darauf ausgerichtet, die Zukunft zu zeigen. Wir werden uns selbst treu bleiben und die zukünftige Entwicklung des Automobilsektors präsentieren. Der Automobilsektor ist stark genug, um im Zentrum der Messe zu stehen. Aber wir werden auch das Ökosystem der Automobilindustrie willkommen heißen, wie zum Beispiel Batterieanbieter, Anbieter von Aufladesystemen und so weiter.
Welche Rolle werden Autos mit Elektro-Antrieben spielen?
Die Automobilindustrie ist eindeutig auf dem Weg zur Elektrifizierung der Mobilität. Dieser Wandel wird auf dem nächsten Salon durch die Mehrzahl der ausgestellten Elektroautos veranschaulicht
Wie ist die Beziehung zu Katar? Wird die Messe abwechselnd in Genf und Katar stattfinden?
Die Messe in Katar findet alle zwei Jahre statt, das erste Mal vom 5. bis 14. Oktober 2023. Wir haben mit Katar einen Vertrag über 5 Messen, das heisst eine zehnjährige Partnerschaft. Er wird den Namen Internationaler Automobilsalon Genf-Katar tragen.
Der Salon in Genf wird jedes Jahr stattfinden. Beides zusammen schafft Synergien, wenn wir als Veranstalter in Kontakt mit den Automobilmarken stehen.
Der Genfer Automobilsalon wurde im Jahr 1905 ins Leben gerufen. Im Jahr 1924 wurde er zu einer internationalen Ausstellung, dem Internationalen Automobilsalon Genf. Deshalb werden wir im Jahr 2024 das 100-jährige Jubiläum feiern.
Was war der Grund für den Wegzug des Genfer Automobilsalons nach Katar und was der Grund für die Rückkehr?
Die Gründung des Internationalen Automobilsalons Genf-Qatar ist eine Gelegenheit, in einer Region mit großem Potenzial international zu expandieren, aber es war nie unsere Absicht, Genf für Doha zu verlassen. Aus diesem Grund organisieren wir vom 26. Februar bis zum 3. März 2024 eine neue Ausgabe im Palexpo in Genf. Heute ist die Geneva International Motor Show eine Marke mit zwei Plattformen.

Sandro Mesquita, what is your biggest concern and doesn’t let you sleep as regards the Geneva International Motor Show 2024?
First of all, I sleep very well. But our main challenge is the same as for all the motor shows in the world, which is to create a good quality show with a good content.
What is the content of the Geneva International Motor Show?
On the one side, we have the content created by the brands themselves on their booth. And on the other side, the experience that we as organizers are enhancing the visitor’s journey. Our claim for next year edition is «Auto.Future.Now». We will create four thematic zones – the Inovation Park, the Design District, the Zero Emission Space and the Adrenaline Zone. Within these zones, visitors will discover additional curated moments and will be inspired to experience them.

The Geneva International Motor Show is after only one show in Qatar in October 2023 returning to Palexpo in the year 2024. How secure is the show in Geneva in 2024, what does it depend on?
The Geneva International Motor Show is to a 100 percent confirmed. So far we have positive reactions from major brands, we already know some will definitively come - and some will not.
Having said that, we see that brands take more and more time to register, because we saw the break of the pandemic. The routine they had before Covid-19 is not in place anymore. Each investment in such a marketing platform is nowadays evaluated very, very carefully.
But we are very happy for the brands who are confirmed already.
Who will be the owner of the brand title and the show itself? What role does GIMS have and what role Geneva Palexpo?
The ownership has not changed and is still the same. The Geneva International Motor Show GIMS is the brand name behind the show. The owner is the non profit organisation called «Comitée Permanent du Salon de l’automobile»
Will the show be extended to a mobility show like IAA in Munich?
We decided to stay a motor show and not move into the same direction as Munich did. Obviously since the show was created in 1905 it was always dedicated to reveal the future. We will stay true to ourself and will present the future evolution of the automotive sector. The automotive sector is strong enough to be at the centre of the show. But we will welcome the ecosystem of the motor industry like battery suppliers, suppliers of recharging systems and so on.
What role will cars with an electrically driven engine play?
The automotive industry is clearly moving towards the electrification of mobility. This major change will be illustrated at the next edition of the Geneva International Motor Show by a majority of electric cars on show.
What’s the relationship with Qatar? Will the show alternate between Geneva and Qatar?
The Qatar show takes place every two years, the first time from 5 to 14 October 2023. We have a contract with Qatar for 5 shows, i.e. a ten year partnership. It will be called the Geneva International Motorshow Qatar.
The Show in Geneva will take place every year. Both together creates synergies when we as an organiser are in contact with the automotive brands.
The Geneva Motor Show was first established in the year 1905. In 1924 it became an international show, the Geneva International Motor Show. This is why in 2024 we will celebrate the 100 year anniversary.
What was the reason for the Geneva International Motor Show to leave Geneva for Qatar and what was the reason for coming back?
The creation of the Geneva International Motor Show Qatar is an opportunity to expand internationally in a region with great potential. However it was never our intention to leave Geneva for Doha for good. This is why we are organizing a new edition at Palexpo in Geneva from February 26 to March 3 in 2024. Today, the Geneva International Motor Show is one brand with two platforms.
