Is artificial intelligence truly the game changer for the consumer goods industry? Featuring an interview with Yvonne Engelmann on how international contacts are established.

Sharon Gai: The consumer goods industry must not miss out on the potential of AI.

Only 4 percent of exhibitors and 11 percent of visitorsat Ambiente, Christmasworld, and Creativeworld have so far rated the use of AI as a key challenge for their own companies – meaning the industry lags behind the general AI hype in terms of perceived urgency. This is precisely where the second wave of the industry index for the consumer goods markets at Ambiente, Christmasworld, and Creativeworld comes in.

At the same time, keynote speakers like Sharon Gai (Compass Talks 2026) and industry representatives like Leopold Grupp (Stölzle Lausitz) explicitly position AI as a game-changer against cost and margin pressures. A gap is therefore emerging between the perception and expectations of the trade fair, which will likely be addressed more prominently in 2027.

The pressure to act is correspondingly high for the industry. "AI is an absolute game changer," says Leopold Grupp, Managing Director of Stölzle Lausitz. "For many companies, AI will become an important tool for dealing with increasing cost and margin pressures." At the same time, a key question arose in discussions with industry representatives: Is the consumer goods industry already utilizing the potential of AI consistently enough – or are uncertainty, regulation, and a lack of resources hindering the transformation?

The downloadable industry index provides an international barometer of sentiment and trends in the consumer goods sector, revealing how companies worldwide are responding to current transformation processes. The initial survey, with participants from over 60 countries, already showed that the industry sees great opportunities in technological innovation, while uncertainty and high pressure to adapt are simultaneously shaping the markets.

The global survey started on May 27, 2026, and ran for four weeks. The results will be published in September 2026 as part of the kick-off communication for Ambiente, Christmasworld, and Creativeworld 2027.

The Compass Talks will once again kick offAmbiente, Christmasworld, and Creativeworld on the day before, January 28, 2027. Ambiente/Christmasworld will take place from January 29 to February 2, 2027. Creativeworld will take place from January 29 to February 1, 2027.
