Europe is accelerating its bid to become a global artificial intelligence powerhouse. At GITEX EUROPE at Messe Berlin, the big debate is about the technologies, policies and partnerships shaping the continent's digital future.

Berlin: The Centre of Europe's AI Ambition

Organised by inD, the global organisers behind the GITEX event network, and supported by the Berlin Senate Department for Economics, Energy and Public Enterprises as well as Berlin Partner for Business and Technology, the event spanning over two days aims to strengthen Europe's position in the rapidly evolving AI landscape.

Berlin has become one of Europe's most influential technology hubs, making it a natural venue for discussions about the continent's digital future. According to recent ecosystem reports, the German capital boasts a startup ecosystem valued at around €169 billion, home to 57 unicorn companies and more than 9,000 AI specialists.

Franziska Giffey (picture below), Berlin's Vice Mayor and Senator for Economic Affairs, Energy and Public Enterprises, believes the event reinforces the city's role as a gateway for technological innovation and investment.

"As one of Europe's leading innovation hubs, Berlin brings together world-class research, a dynamic startup scene, established industry and international talents," she said. "Hosting GITEX AI EUROPE strengthens Berlin's position as a gateway for investment, technological collaboration and sustainable economic growth. At the same time, it provides a unique platform to shape a European digital future that combines innovation with security and technological sovereignty."

Cybersecurity and Enterprise Innovation on Display

The exhibition floor will showcase some of the world's largest technology companies alongside emerging innovators. AWS, Cloudflare, CommScope, HPE, ManageEngine, Red Hat, Salesforce and TrendAI will demonstrate solutions spanning AI, cloud computing, cybersecurity and digital transformation.

Attendees will also have the opportunity to take part in practical masterclasses delivered by OpenAI and Google, focusing on AI coding, endpoint security and enterprise applications of artificial intelligence.

Germany's own technology strengths will feature prominently. BASF, the world's largest chemical company, and Bosch, a global engineering leader, will highlight advances in industrial technology, while DeepL will demonstrate how European developed AI is competing successfully on a global stage.

"Language is still the largest invisible barrier in global business," said Leonardo Doin (left), Head of Voice at DeepL. "DeepL Voice is built for the complexity global enterprises face: high-stakes conversations, multiple languages, zero tolerance for mistranslation. At GITEX AI EUROPE, we're looking forward to showing what European AI looks like when it's built for global scale."

Sovereign AI and Europe's Digital Future

Beyond the exhibition, more than 70 hours of conference content will explore some of the most pressing questions facing Europe's digital economy. Policymakers, business leaders and researchers will debate sovereign AI, compute infrastructure, hyperscale models, energy readiness and the challenge of balancing innovation with regulation.

Among the keynote speakers is Germany's Federal Minister for Digital Transformation and State Modernisation, Dr Karsten Wildberger, who will address Europe's ambitions to build a stronger and more self-reliant AI ecosystem.

"To become more sovereign, we must not copy what other players can do better but focus on our own strengths and potential," Dr Wildberger (picture on the right) said. "Germany has a strong industrial base with comprehensive know-how and industrial data. This, and the fact that we are building new compute infrastructure, will help secure our economic and industrial growth and competitiveness."

Investors and Startups Drive the Next Innovation Wave

Innovation and investment remain central themes of GITEX AI EUROPE 2026. The event's North Star Europe programme will host more than 500 startups working in fields such as industrial AI, deep tech and quantum security, while more than 600 investors collectively managing around US$1 trillion in assets will explore the next generation of European innovation.

The conference will also feature more than 20 unicorn companies and high-growth firms, including Delivery Hero and AI search company Perplexity.

Ryan Foutty (picture below), Vice President of Business at Perplexity, pictured below, believes the industry is entering a new era in which AI moves beyond answering questions to actively carrying out tasks.

"Search has been largely unchanged for the last 30 years," he said. "The next step and natural evolution of the answer engine is the action engine, which is an interface where agents can do real work on your behalf. At GITEX AI EUROPE, I'm looking forward to discussing how enterprises can move beyond the pilot phase and make AI the default surface for how work gets done."

As Europe seeks to convert its research excellence and engineering expertise into global leadership, GITEX AI EUROPE 2026 aims to provide the stage where governments, businesses and innovators can forge the partnerships that will define the continent's digital future.
