The Bürgenstock Resort has always been popular for private and MICE events, but it had reached its capacity limits. These have now been resolved with the impressive launch of the spectacular Event Domes under the motto "The Future of Experiences." It sets a significant benchmark for the Swiss MICE market.

On April 16, 2026, a MICE location unlike any other was inaugurated on the Bürgenstock, high above Lake Lucerne.

England's famous poet Dr. Samuel Johnson coined the incomparable quote, "When a man is tired of London, he is tired of life," and the analogy to the Bürgenstock Resort , high above the majestic Lake Lucerne and nestled in the spectacular Swiss Prealps, is undeniable. Anyone who doesn't feel like they're in paradise here, in this natural wonderland , is beyond help. I was fortunate enough to be invited to the launch of the fabulous Bürgenstock Event Domes, together with the Swiss event industry. What a spectacle!

Connecting spaces and experiences

The launch of the Event Domes seamlessly guided guests from initial encounters through the official ceremony to dinner and artistically designed moments. At the same time, internationally acclaimed

Artists create impressive highlights.

World-renowned Belgian designer Charles Kaisin (pictured below) was responsible for the overall design of the opening event, drawing inspiration from the unique atmosphere of the location, which he describes as "a world where time stands still": "For me, the Bürgenstock Resort is a place where you leave the rhythm of everyday life behind. The combination of nature, architecture, and atmosphere creates a special kind of tranquility and, at the same time, space for new ideas. It was precisely this tension that inspired us in staging the evening," said Kaisin.

Visionary space

The Bürgenstock Event Domes (pictured above) combine architecture, nature, and staging. Designed as a semi-permanent structure from April to October, the Event Domes offer space for corporate events, conferences, and exclusive occasions in the international MICE sector.

The modular architecture of wood and glass allows for diverse room configurations – from open plenary sessions to breakout zones and separate reception areas. This creates an atmosphere that fosters concentration, creativity, and dialogue, making the space itself an active part of the event. A total of 650 million Swiss francs was invested in the entire Bürgenstock Resort Lake Lucerne, part of the Swiss-based Bürgenstock Collection.

"You never know what you might still be able to achieve."

“Even before the opening, we had a large playground (note: for MICE events), but we kept reaching our capacity limits. Now we've created a 360-degree offering,” said Dominik Stalder (left in the picture), hotel manager of the Bürgenstock Resort. He added, “It's very important to us that we cater to everyone at our resort, from the average hiker to the multimillionaire, who has a connection to the region.” According to him, the event domes were developed for three years, after which further development is planned.

The future of experiences

“Tonight we want to create experiences,” said Chris K. Franzen (pictured above on the right), Managing Director of the Bürgenstock Resort, in his lighthearted speech at the grand opening of the Domes and a highly poetic show featuring a spectacular flying piano act by Art of Show, magical performances by internationally acclaimed magicians, street art from France by Remue Menage, and productions by international artists such as Pavel Kotov from Cirque du Soleil. “Luxury is interchangeable; an event is about emotions , and we want our guests to leave the hotel happy,” continued Chris K. Franzen.

The new Event Domes offer not only impressive architecture but also a dedicated Experience Team to help MICE clients plan their events. Many of the rooms are intentionally designed to offer views of both Lake Lucerne and the imposing mountain scenery. The luxurious spa, complete with sauna, hammam, Sulphur Room, and indoor and outdoor swimming pools, can be rented as an event venue – as can most facilities at the Bürgenstock. This also applies, of course, to the private suites, each named after the famous guests who have stayed there.

The infrastructure

The resort comprises 360 rooms spread across three hotels: the Bürgenstock Hotel & Alpine Spa (5* Superior), which offers two different accommodation options - The Contemporary and The Heritage, which are connected underground - and now the newly added Event Domes.

You'll also find the Waldhotel by Bürgenstock (5* Superior) and the Taverne 1879 (3*). In addition, the resort boasts 12 restaurants, lounges and bars, 17 Residence Suites, a 10,000 m² Alpine Spa, and a wide range of leisure activities.

Hotel guests also have access to the resort's own (!) mountain railway, which leads to the resort's own ship, which then takes guests free of charge across Lake Lucerne directly to Lucerne train station.

“The Bürgenstock Event Domes combine the key elements of a successful event: space, atmosphere, and cuisine. It is the cuisine in particular that creates moments that connect people, are memorable, and give each occasion its own unique character,” says Mike Wehrle (pictured above), Corporate Culinary Director of the Bürgenstock Collection.

Dimensions of a new event competition

Versatility: With approximately 1,450 m² of space and a capacity for up to 550 guests, the modular structures enable flexible formats, from strategic meetings to immersive brand experiences. Architecture and space can be dynamically adapted to content and event planning.

Culinary delights: The launch event underscored the culinary signature of the Bürgenstock Resort. Under the direction of Mike Wehrle, various stations showcased the wide range of culinary concepts. International influences met regional quality. The offerings were complemented by the futuristic and exceptional patisserie creations of Damián Carini, Executive Pastry Chef of the Bürgenstock Resort Lake Lucerne, which were presented as a unique experience.

Hospitality: As an integrated destination with hotels (3- to 5-star superior), a comprehensive wellness and leisure program, and diverse dining options, the Bürgenstock Resort creates a holistic experience. Guests move seamlessly between interaction, relaxation, and inspiration, supported by a service culture of international caliber.

New opportunities for encounters and strengthening Switzerland's position in the international MICE competition

The competition among global MICE destinations (Meetings, Incentives, Conventions, Expos) – from Amsterdam to Zurich, from Vienna to New York, or from Abu Dhabi to Vietnam – for the favor of the MICE-driving industry is fierce. In most countries, this competition is largely or entirely state-funded, with seemingly limitless resources for brand-new infrastructure and its expression at leading international trade fairs such as IMEX in Frankfurt and Las Vegas, and IBTM in Barcelona.

With its Event Domes, the Bürgenstock Resort is solidifying its position and that of Switzerland as a leading event destination. The combination of location, infrastructure, and curated experiences creates a setting for events that go far beyond traditional formats.

“A place has been created that offers new opportunities for encounters – inspiring, flexible and internationally connected,” is how Chris K. Franzen describes it.

The royal family from Qatar has set a phenomenal example on the Bürgenstock, one that, I have no doubt, is unparalleled worldwide.
